Ferrite Block Magnet 150X25X12.7mm is a popular magnet used in ferrous separation.

Due to Ferrite magnets being non metallic magnets, they have a high magnetic permeability, they therefore store stronger metallic fields than metallic magnets.

FERRITE Block magnets

Developed in the 1960’s, and commonly used in various applications over the past several decades as a low-cost alternative to metallic magnets. Also known as ceramic magnets, rank above all other magnets in the world in their popularity due to their versatility and scope of applications.

Ferrite / Ceramic magnets are dark grey – or lead colour as in a pencil, hard and brittle. They are uncoated with a fine powder can be frequently found on them. Precisely cut, straight edges, fine 90° corners, medium strength magnets , Ferrite magnets can be used at temperatures up to a maximum of +250°C allowing for a range of high temperature uses. These magnets are robust ceramic that are corrosion-resistant, which makes them a suitable fit for both indoor and outdoor – use in water, salt water and marine environments.

Ferrite Magnets are man-made magnets. Iron oxide and barium or strontium carbonate are used in the manufacturing of hard ferrite magnets. Because our block magnets are hard ferrite magnets, they have high coercivity. The high coercivity means, their materials are highly resistant to demagnetization, an essential characteristic in a permanent magnet.

Large ceramic block magnets are often used in applications where a permanent high-strength magnetic field is required, such as separation and sweeping assemblies. Ferrite magnetic material proposes a high level of endurance, being a top choice for long term performance. When well maintained – Ferrite Block Magnets will easily outlast their application.

While Ferrites are also called Ceramic magnets – they both refer to the exact same magnet, the term ceramic came into effect because these magnets are electrically insulating (electrical current does not pass through them because of their exceptionally high electrical resistance). Unlike other ferromagnetic materials, most ferrites are not electrically conductive.

Ferrite Block Applications

Ferrite Magnets are extremely popular in motor, generator, loudspeaker and marine designs but are found in almost all industries. e.g. Automotive, Sensor, Machines, Aerospace, Military, Advertising, Electrical/Electronic, Academic, Design House, and R&D.

The smaller block magnets are frequently found in hobby & craft applications, as well as model building. Ferrites are also used in applications where their magnetism can be amplified, such as assemblies, ie: pot magnets, round base magnets (shallow pot magnets).

The bigger block magnets are favoured in many ferrous separation applications which require metal contamination to be removed – such as a conveyor belt in a food distribution plant.

As has been noted, Ferrite magnets are hard and brittle. They can shatter and break if mishandled or dropped. While cracks, lines and other visual imperfections are common in Ferrites, these differences do not represent defects. Chips of up to 5% of the magnets surface is acceptable and cracks are allowed provided less than 50% of the magnets surface is affected.

In Summary ceramic magnets are used in nearly every single industry thinkable, from simple applications like fridge magnets, magnetic locks, magnetic sweepers and separators to complex refined magnetic applications such as generators and Eddy Current Devices.
