What types of magnets do you supply?

Which is stronger – neodymium or ferrite magnets?
Neodymium magnets are much stronger than ferrite (ceramic) magnets of the same size. Ferrite magnets are more affordable and better suited for outdoor use where corrosion resistance is important.
Can magnets lose their strength over time?
Neodymium magnets will lose less than 1% of their strength over 10 years if not exposed to extreme heat, corrosion, or physical damage.
Can magnets be cut, drilled, or machined?
No. Magnets are brittle and may break or lose strength if drilled or cut. For custom sizes, we can manufacture to your specifications.
Are your magnets safe to use around electronics or pacemakers?
Strong magnets can damage magnetic media (hard drives, credit cards, tapes) and interfere with pacemakers. Caution is advised when handling large neodymium magnets near sensitive equipment or medical devices.
How to identify magnetic poles?
- Use a marked magnet
The simplest way is to compare your magnet with one that already has the poles marked. The opposite poles will attract each other (North attracts South), and like poles will repel. - Suspend the magnet on a string Tie the magnet to a string and let it hang freely. The end that naturally points towards the Earth’s geographic North is the North pole of the magnet. The opposite end is the South pole.
- Use a compass
Place a compass near your magnet. The needle’s north end (usually marked) will be attracted to the magnet’s South pole. This method is quick, simple, and reliable. - Use a pole identifier
A pole identifier is a small electronic tool designed to quickly show which end of the magnet is North and which is South. It’s often used in manufacturing or testing environments for accuracy and convenience.
Will a magnet with a 10kg pull force actually lift 10kgs?
Not always. Because pull force values are tested under laboratory conditions, you probably won't achieve the same holding force under real world conditions. The effective pull force is reduced by uneven contact with the metal surface, pulling in a direction that is not perpendicular to the steel, attaching to metal that is thinner than ideal, surface coatings, and other factors. Contact us of you are unsure of the magnetic strength you require.
How is magnet strength measured?
- Gaussmeters → Surface field (Gauss/Tesla)
A gaussmeter is a handheld device that measures the strength of the magnetic field at the surface of the magnet. The reading is given in Gauss or Tesla. This gives a quick idea of how strong the magnet is on its surface. - Pull force testers → Holding strength (lbs/kg)
A pull force tester measures how much weight or force a magnet can hold before it lets go. This is usually shown in pounds (lbs) or kilograms (kg) and is a practical way to see how useful a magnet will be for lifting or holding objects

What are neodymium magnets made of?
They are made from a mix of neodymium, iron, and boron (NdFeB).
How are they made?
The material is ground into a fine powder, pressed into shape, sintered (heated until solid), then cut, coated, and finally magnetized.
Can you make a magnet stronger?
No, once a magnet has been fully magnetized, its strength cannot be increased.
Do they lose strength over time?
Not really. Neodymium magnets lose less than 1% of their strength over 10 years, as long as they are not overheated, physically damaged, or exposed to strong opposing magnetic fields.
What are the temperature limits?

Can they be cut, drilled, or machined?
Not easily. Neodymium magnets are very hard and brittle, making them difficult and dangerous to cut or drill. Specialized tools are required, and there is a high risk of cracking, demagnetization, or even fire.
Why are most Neodymium’s plated?
To prevent rust (iron oxidizes easily). Common coatings include Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni, shiny silver, standard), black Nickel (gunmetal look), Zinc (dull grey, weaker corrosion resistance), Epoxy (plastic-like, corrosion resistant but scratches easily), Gold (decorative, over nickel), Rubber/plastic (impact protection, lower pull force).
