Health, Safety & Electronics
Do magnets affect pacemakers?
Yes, magnets can interfere with pacemakers and other implanted medical devices.
Magnets on household appliances (fridges, stoves, microwaves)?
Generally safe for everyday use.
Safe distance from electronics?
Keep magnets at least 10 cm away from electronics, adding an additional 2.5 cm for every 4.5 kg of pull force. This helps prevent data loss, screen damage, or other interference.
Health concerns?
There are no known long-term health risks from magnets. However, swallowing small magnets is extremely dangerous, especially for children, as they can attract inside the body and cause serious injury. Always keep magnets out of reach of children and pets.
Handling
How to separate magnets:
- Small magnets: Slide them apart by hand.
- Larger magnets: Use the edge of a table or a non-metallic wedge to push them apart.
- Very large or industrial magnets: Special separation tools are required.
Handling safety:
Strong magnets can snap together with great force, posing risks of pinched fingers, bruises, or broken skin. Always handle with care, keep them away from fragile surfaces, and wear protective gloves when working with large magnets.
